Request a Tribute

To arrange a Nightingale Tribute for your loved one, please contact Amanda Simmons at amanda@nhgeastcentralalabama.org

The Nightingale Tribute

This is recited during the memorial, followed by placement of a white rose with the casket or urn, and another given to family. This signifies the nurse’s devotion to her profession and our appreciation for her years served as our colleague.

Final Call to Duty/Release from Duty

This is performed during the services or at the graveside. A Nightingale lamp is lit in the nurse’s honor, and the nurse’s name is called with a request to report to duty. With no response, the lamp’s flame is extinguished and the nurse is released of her nursing duties.

Casket Honor Guard

The Honor Guard may be posted at the head of the casket, standing silently to give their last respects.

Honorary Pallbearers

The honor guard may be requested to attend the visitation and/or funeral services to serve as honorary pallbearers.

Living Tributes

For elderly nurses who have devoted themselves to the field of nursing, a living tribute can be provided to honor her years of service. The nurse is presented with a lantern and white roses as a symbol of appreciation.
